Step by Step

How Our Strip out & Demolition Service Works

Every job follows the same documented process — from first contact to final Waste Transfer Note.

01

Site Survey

We visit the site to assess scope, identify any hazardous materials — including suspected asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) — and agree access and working-hours requirements.

02

Asbestos Check

If suspected ACMs are present, we arrange a licensed refurbishment/demolition asbestos survey before any stripping work begins. Work does not proceed until the survey is cleared.

03

Crew Mobilisation

Our uniformed team arrives with all plant and equipment. Floor protection and access sheeting are laid before any stripping begins.

04

Systematic Strip-Out

Materials are removed level by level and segregated on site into metal, timber, plasterboard, and general streams to achieve the maximum possible recycling rate.

05

Waste Removal & Documentation

All loads are removed to EA-licensed facilities. Duty-of-care Waste Transfer Notes are issued and emailed within 24 hours of final clearance.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Strip out & Demolition

What is the difference between strip-out and structural demolition?

Strip-out removes non-structural internal fittings — partitions, ceilings, floors, fixtures, and fit-out. Structural demolition removes load-bearing walls, columns, and frames. WasteWize specialises in strip-out and soft demolition only. We do not touch structural steelwork or load-bearing elements.

Do I need planning permission for an interior strip-out?

For internal non-structural works on a standard commercial or residential building, planning permission is generally not required. However, if the building is listed, you will need listed building consent for even minor internal alterations. We recommend confirming with your local planning authority before work commences.

Can you work outside normal business hours?

Yes. We regularly work evenings and weekends to minimise disruption to neighbouring businesses or to operational areas of the building. Overtime rates may apply — confirm at the quotation stage.

What happens to the materials after removal?

All materials are stream-segregated on site. Metal is sent to certified smelters; timber to biomass or timber recycling; plasterboard to specialist gypsum recyclers; and general mixed waste to energy-from-waste facilities. We achieve a 99% landfill diversion rate on most strip-out projects.
